Animations can be exported as an animated GIF or Macromedia Flash file. Animations are created using layers. The process involves creating a series of layers which will become the frames of the animation. At the end of this tutorial we will have created an animated GIF like the one pictured here. This animation uses moving text, but the same principles apply to any type of animation including changing shapes, etc.

Put all the pictures that you want to insert into your movie into a new folder (with nothing except these pictures in the folder). If you want to have a title slide at the start of your movie and a credits or ending slide at the end (with text on them) - or any other kind of slides with text on them, you should create these in Adobe Photoshop (or other graphic editing application) see guidelines on how to do this at the end of this page and save them as.jpg or.gif images - then insert these into the folder along with the other images that you will be using to make your movie. Open Adobe ImageReady. From the File menu select- Import - folder as frames.
Navigate to the folder in which you have the pictures saved (from Step 1 above). Click on this folder once (do not open it) and select the choose button. ImageReady will import the pictures and place them in a 'film strip' along the bottom of your screen. You may wish to reorder the pictures if they are not in the order that you would like for your final movie. To move a pictures, click on it and then drag and drop it in the desired location (be sure especially to check that your title and credits slides are in the correct location.
Beneath each picture you will see the length of time that the picture will be shown for in your movie. To change the number of seconds, you can either (a) click on the arrow immediately below the picture and select the desired number of seconds or (b) From the top right hand corner of the film strip palette, click on the arrow - from the pull down menu bar that appears, choose select all frames - Then click on the arrow beneath any of the pictures, change the number of seconds, and this will change all images.
If you have title and credits slides you may wish to make these show for longer than the other picture slides. If all other pictures will be shown for the same length, then go ahead and select all frames and make them all the same length (including the title and credit slides) and then afterwards come back and change the title and credit slides individually. When you are done and have the pictures in the order and at the time length desired, from the file menu - select Export Original. A box will ask you in what format you want to save the pictures - Select QuickTime Movie. Give the movie a name.
Be sure to keep the.mov extension in the name and to have the movie name be one word, no spaces. Choose where you would like to save the movie and click save. A box will ask you the compression level you want for the movie. Make your selection by sliding the slider higher or lower than the default (depending on the quality and size of movie that you want to have). How to create a title and credit slides to insert into your movie. In Photoshop (or other graphic editing application) from the File menu select New.
Enter the width and height of your image (make this the same size as the other images that you will use for your movie). Also set the resolution the same. Select the contents (white, background color, or transparent).

Make sure that the font is large enough and contrasts clearly with the background on the slide (this is especially important as small text that doesn't contrast clearly will not be easy to read when you convert the movie to a QuickTime movie)- then click OK. From the tools palette, select the T for type tool. From the type tool menu bar select the font, size, color etc. Place the cursor on the screen and type in your title or other text. You may also wish to insert images, using the drawing or other tools to create other effects.
When you are done, from the File menu choose Save - save the image as a.jpg or.gif - and be sure to save it into the same folder as the other images you will be using for your movie.
